Same Town Name, Different Birthplace: Check Before You Calculate

By YUVYN Team

You type the town on your birth record into a BaZi calculator. The first search result repeats the name exactly. It is tempting to move on. But a place name alone may not identify a unique location: another town in another region can share it. Before the chart, there is one small decision worth making carefully—which result did you actually select?

The same name is not the same birthplace

In this fictional example, a record says “Riverton, Region A, Country X.” A search list might show “Riverton · Region A · Country X” and “Riverton · Region B · Country X.” The town word matches both; the regional context distinguishes them. If the record only says “Riverton,” neither line becomes certain just because it appears first.

The useful detail is where the birth happened. Your present home, a parent's hometown, or the city where a certificate was issued may be different places. A hospital record, birth certificate, or a family member who knows the location may help you establish the birth town and its wider region. Write those details down before opening the calculator. You are checking the input, not trying to find a place that produces a preferred chart.

Make the location field do its full job

YUVYN's free English BaZi calculator asks you to search for a city or place and choose a birthplace from the results. Read the smaller location context under each result, not just its bold name. The list can identify a historic place; treat that label as a reason to compare the result with the wording and date of your record, not as automatic proof that it is yours. Select the matching result and look for the field's selected state. Typing a plausible name without choosing a result leaves the location unconfirmed.

Try this three-line check before calculating:

  1. Record: Copy the birthplace exactly as written, including any region and country you can verify.
  2. Result: Copy the full candidate name and context shown by the calculator. Does the wider location agree with the record?
  3. Selection: Confirm that you chose that candidate, rather than leaving search text in the box. If the record or results remain ambiguous, mark the place unresolved and seek a better source.

When a search returns no clear match, try the recorded spelling or a verified alternate spelling. Do not quietly replace an unlisted town with a nearby famous city. A nearby place might seem convenient, but it changes the input you are documenting. Keep the uncertainty visible until you can check the source or the place list further.

Keep the clock attached to the place

For YUVYN, enter the Gregorian birth date and the local clock time recorded at the birthplace. Its calculator uses the selected place to resolve historical time-zone rules; it does not ask you to convert the recorded clock to your current home time, Beijing time, or true solar time. Choosing the place carefully makes that time-zone lookup traceable. It does not guarantee that a traditional interpretation is accurate, and it does not mean every different place will change a pillar.

Once the birth location, Gregorian date, and known recorded local time are verified, open YUVYN's free English BaZi calculator, choose the matching birthplace result, and read the Four Pillars and Day Master it displays.
