BaZi Birth-Date Formats: Does 03/04 Mean March 4 or April 3?
By the YUVYN team
03/04 can mean March 4 in month-day order or April 3 in day-month order. With a year attached, 03/04/1990 still needs a format label. These are two different calendar dates, not two ways of writing the same birthday. Before comparing BaZi charts, establish which date your birth record actually describes.
What does 03/04/1990 mean?
| Date format | Order | Meaning of 03/04/1990 |
|---|---|---|
| MM/DD/YYYY | Month / Day / Year | March 4, 1990 |
| DD/MM/YYYY | Day / Month / Year | April 3, 1990 |
Both readings are valid dates. A form accepting the numbers does not establish that you selected the intended one. Date notation also varies across locales: MDN's date-formatting examples illustrate month-first US English and day-first British English.

Confirm the date before entering it
Start with the original birth record, rather than a copied message or an old calculator screenshot. Look for a written month name, a date-format label, or an explanation from the record's issuer. Birthplace alone does not tell you which notation a particular document uses.
If the record only says 03/04/1990 and its order remains unclear, seek clarification instead of choosing whichever chart feels more convincing. Once confirmed, write the date in words, such as March 4, 1990. Keep the recorded local birth time and birthplace beside it so later comparisons use the same inputs.
Choose the matching format in YUVYN
- Before typing, use the Date format selector. Choose US · Month / Day / Year for MM/DD/YYYY, or UK · Day / Month / Year for DD/MM/YYYY.
- Enter the complete date, including the four-digit year. For a confirmed March 4 birthday, type 03/04/1990 in the US format or 04/03/1990 in the UK format.
- Read the Recorded date message beneath the field. Check its written month, day, and year against your record before continuing.
- If that message shows the wrong date, clear the field, choose the intended order, and enter it again. If a partial or invalid entry prevents changing the format, finish or clear it first.
YUVYN also offers Year / Month / Day. For this March 4 example, 1990-03-04 removes the month/day ordering ambiguity. These instructions describe YUVYN's own text field and format selector; other websites may handle dates differently.
Changing the format preserves a valid date
After YUVYN has recognized a valid birthday, switching its format changes how that date is displayed. March 4 entered as 03/04/1990 in US format becomes 04/03/1990 in UK format. It remains March 4. To correct a wrongly interpreted birthday, edit the date itself; simply switching the format is not a correction.
Frequently asked questions
Which date format should I use for BaZi?
Use the format that matches how you are entering your confirmed birth date. Month-first and day-first notation describe calendar dates; neither notation makes a chart interpretation more accurate.
Will March 4 and April 3 have different Day Masters?
Not necessarily. A difference in calendar dates does not mean every chart field must change. Confirm the birth date from the record rather than using a Day Master match to decide its meaning.
Does a matching Day Master prove my date is correct?
No. Agreement in one chart field does not verify the birth record or every input. Confirm the date independently before using chart agreement to compare tools.
